RAILROAD YARD

Philadelphia PA
•
Scope: Locate and map utilities at select locations within a railroad yard in preparation for environmental borings.

•
Description: PULS was contracted by an environmental engineering firm to locate, clear and map locations for a series environmental soil borings within an active railroad yard. PULS technicians worked with railroad yard staff to ensure that work was done efficiently and without interruption of train services or site operations. PULS provided the client and contractors on site with color-coded maps of the utilities, including detailed notes and descriptions of the utility investigations.

MILITARY BASE

Harrisburg PA
•
Scope: PULS provided utility designation for the design and installation of a new steam line along a one-mile corridor of the base.

•
Description: PULS was contracted by a surveying firm to mark all utilities within a 100' corridor. Crews worked closely with the client and the base staff to mark and map water, steam, base communications (fiber optics), primary and secondary electric and force mains that paralleled and crossed the proposed construction. PULS notified the client of previously unknown 14” AC water main, which was in direct conflict with the purposed work. This data was uncovered by a PULS utility research technician after a review of old site plans. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) was used to scan and sweep the corridor for non-metallic utility lines not shown on record after a grid pattern, electromagnetic sweep had been completed. The utilities were surveyed and delivered to the client in an AutoCAD format.

•
Description: PULS was contracted by the general contractor to locate and map utilities for the construction of a new building and the extension of an existing building. PULS was able to use a combination of Electromagnetic and Ground Penetrating Radar utility locators to identify several previously unidentified utilities and correct the locations of other utilities and structures on the site. The quick turnaround on the updated records for the general contractor allowed them to continue without interruption to their work schedule. PULS provided the general contractor with color-coded maps of the utilities, including detailed notes and descriptions of the utility investigations.
